My sister Olivia was born with a brain malformation that damaged her long-term memory and placed her on the autism spectrum.

Approaching this challenge boldly, Olivia uses photos to aid her memory, develop her own self-identity, and engage with her most important people and times. For as long as I can remember, Olivia has collected thousands of photos, archiving every family memory.

About ten years ago, I discovered my own love for photography, realizing that I could use the power of my camera to pause and document parts of Olivia’s life. Through photography I could give her memory and the feeling of love saved in the photos.

I grew up understanding the immense weight photographs hold: the feelings, details, love, and laughs of special moments with loved ones.

Photographing Olivia's memories through the years inspires me to serve others with documenting their lives. Whether its for my sister or for others, I take special care of capturing these memories because they are delicate heirlooms. Our memories are informed by photos, at the end of the day, the photos are all we have.



Olivia continues to teach me about patience, understanding, and empathy. When it comes to art, Olivia has shown me that photographs are the most tangible existence of memory we have.
